I'm becoming more convinced than ever that there is no one pedagogy for teaching with an IWB. I see so many teachers using them in so many ways, many of which are seemingly quite mundane, and yet these teachers are getting value out of them.
I'm sure that it is a continuum of use, from mundane to innovative, but if they are getting value and kids are learning then I guess that makes them effective. I'm sure that in many cases they can be more effective, but every start point is valid.

If we can get past the notion of IWB's being a tool and a pedagogy for teachers and move the paradigm forward so that they are a tool for students then I believe we will begin to see changes. Teachers at the moment have a wonderful opportunity to embrace personalised learning and student centered and negotiated practice and it is being overshadowed by teacher led tips and tricks on an IWB.
When we visited schools in Victoria the best schools we saw shifted the notion of teacher up the front to student led explicit instruction where learning became real, relational and relavant.
